As adults grow older, any type of fall start to become more and more dangerous. Statistically, older male adults who fall sustain a much more sever consequence than older female adults.
Although fall prevention is on the top of the list for all care, it becomes even more of a priority as clients decline in mobility and conscious behaviors. Small and big falls can snowball into larger issues if caution is not taken primitively.
All IncrediCare Care Professionals are trained to begin each shift by visually checking fall risks from the outside of the home to the inside. Care Professionals are tasked to pick up objects off the floor, remove obstacles such as cords and boxes out of the path of walking traffic, and prevent clients from climbing ladders or chairs.
One conscious fall prevention is to ensure clients do not trip over rollator or walker legs. When clients are moving around a walker or rollator, they are always encouraged to push the item away from the body and leave it perpendicular to the client’s position.
While clients may not be conscious of their body movements, it is up to the Care Professionals to look for such dangers to prevent any type of falls.
