Incredicare caregivers gave their time and attention to fall prevention and hydration training this month. As one of the most crucial parts of providing care, all employees are trained to not only look for the obvious signs of causes of falls, but to consider other instances of danger.
Caregivers were first encouraged to share stories about any falls that might have occurred during their career. Taking the time to discuss each situation and what could have been done to prevent it helped bring the training to life. Then caregivers were taught about all those dangers that can present themselves in each room of a client’s home. They were also taught that there are both environmental and biological factors for clients falling. They took the time to role play different scenarios on how to approach clients to discuss making positive changes to prevent falls.
As one of the causes of falls is dehydration, caregivers also reviewed the importance of client staying properly hydrated. Once again, caregivers were encouraged to share what their own methods had been to encourage proper hydration with their clients, especially those resistant to drinking enough water. Caregivers were trained in the types of food and drinks that can also provide the same effect for hydrating.
