For the month of May, Carolyn Bowman has been chosen by Incredicare as the Employee of the Month. Working with Incredicare for the last 16 months, Carolyn had a positive impact on every client she has been on.
Carolyn was born in Washington, DC and grew up in the North East part of town. “I’m a native Washingtonian.”
When asked why she decided to become a caregiver, Carolyn shared her story of pain, heartbreak, endurance, and strength. “In 2004, my son Keion was a victim of gun violence, which left him being in a quadriplegic state for 15 years.” She said during those 15 years, she “became more passionate about the care that people needed.” She watched as the care team of nurses and doctors in the hospitals and nursing home gave care to her son. Physically being a part of that care team also cultivated her “passion and love” she has for “the ones that have dependence on me.” Her “dedication to show compassion to meet the needs of the people” in her care is observed every day she is with her Incredicare clients.
Carolyn’s journey with Incredicare started during a chance meeting. “At an outreach ministry, I met Kim Jernigan (Incredicare Community Liasion).” She told Kim about her caregiving experience with her son. Recognizing Incredicare’s mission to have a team of caregivers who are led by their hearts, Kim told her about Incredicare Home Care. Thus began Carolyn’s story with Incredicare.
What brings her joy now is knowing at the end of the day, her clients are happy. Incredicare is proud to have such a compassionate team member.
