IncrediCare celebrates Elise Clonts as February’s Employee of the Month for her compassion, dedication to clients, and commitment to making a difference every day.
Celebrating Elise Clonts, IncrediCare’s February Employee of the Month

1) Where did you grow up? How long have you been in VA/DC/MD area?

I grew up in Richmond, VA, and moved to Warrenton in middle school. I then moved back to Richmond for college, and graduated with my bachelor’s degree at VCU. I’m currently living in Woodbridge with my grandmother to help take care of her.

2) What made you choose this career field? Did anyone influence you to choose this field?

I unintentionally got myself into this line of work! I was hired as a scheduler for another company, and as part of our training, we got to meet some of our clients and their families. I quickly realized I loved being in the field. As time went on, my role developed into covering last-minute callouts to dedicated days in the field, and I even began doing the first “caregiver assessment” shift. This helped us get an understanding of the client’s regular day with help, and pairing the right caregiver with that person.

3) What brings you joy outside of work?

I am a huge animal lover; I have a dog and two cats, all of whom I rescued. I volunteer regularly at the Lorton Animal Shelter, and I enjoy my nights off playing pool every so often.

4) What motivates you to come to work every day?

Just knowing that our clients need help and our being there makes a huge difference in their quality of life. Even if it’s mainly for companionship and watching for falls, it really is the simplest thing we can do that makes a world of difference.

5) What made you choose IncrediCare?

I wanted to work for a smaller business instead of a nationwide company, and IncrediCare was the perfect location for me! The whole office staff is great, kind people, and I will admit- the pay was much more competitive!

6) How has working as a caregiver influenced your life?

My mother has worked as a geriatric PT even before I was born, and she brought me to the rehab a lot when I was little. I understood how to interact and speak with the older folks. I knew to be slow and patient, positive and kind. But becoming a caregiver, with actual people relying on you, it deepens that understanding. You stop consciously thinking about what you should do, and you just do it. And that mentality follows me outside of work now. Over this winter, I’ve helped push cars out, and usually the first to start pushing. I instantly helped people struggling over the ice, and yeah, that’s including a couple of men! But it’s just that automatic recognition of, “hey, that person needs help,” and you do it without a second thought. This work has truthfully pushed me to be a better person.

7) What is a future goal you hope to accomplish?

With my love for this line of work and animals, I dream of helping adopt or foster out animals to people who need their unconditional love. I would love to bring rescues to nursing homes, or to folks who would love to have a pet but aren’t able to. Kind of like renting the dog out for the day! I would also love to see reform work in prisons where they honor good behavior by letting them foster an animal, cats are usually the best candidates! Animals bring the best out of us, and I want to be a part of that. Positively impacting the communities in need by bringing them a sweet, furry face.
