On April 15th, Loudoun Senior Interest Network (or LSIN) hosted Dr. Barry J. Jacobs, PsyD, and Dr. Julia L. Mayer, PsyD, as guest speakers at the Dementia Celebration Center to discuss the topic, “Seven Tough Questions That Worry Family Caregivers.”
The married couple, colleagues, and co-authors of The AARP Caregiver Answer Book shared both their professional expertise and personal experiences caring for parents with different types of dementia. During their presentation, they explored some of the most difficult questions they have encountered while supporting spouses and adult children caring for loved ones with dementia.
Drawing from years of clinical practice and firsthand caregiving experiences, Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Mayer discussed strategies for bridging the gap between exhausted family caregivers and loved ones experiencing progressive cognitive decline. Audience members also contributed their own lived experiences, helping deepen the conversation about how outside support services, such as IncrediCare, can play a meaningful role in patient care, advocacy, and family support.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Mayer stayed to meet with attendees and answer additional individual questions.
