1. Where did you grow up? How long have you been in VA/DC/MD area?
I was born and raised on the island of St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands.
I have been living in Virginia for the past 10 years.
2. What made you choose this career field? Did anyone or any particular moment in your life influence you to choose this field?
I became a part-time caregiver for my grandmother after a serious fall, allowing her to remain in her own home. More recently, my mom was slated for a rehab/nursing facility but passed away before she was admitted. Before her passing, the anxiety of knowing that I would not be able to fully care for her on my own was overwhelming. That experience reinforced for me the privilege and importance of quality in-home care. After nine years as a public-school teacher, caregiving is a career change I never envisioned, but it has given my life a profound sense of purpose.
3. What brings you joy outside of work?
Outside of work, I love walking outdoors, working out, trying new restaurants, spending time with my family and senior Chihuahua, and participating in my church community.
4. What motivates you to come to work every day?
A true sense of purpose, knowing that I get to positively impact someone’s life every day. My faith in Christ is the cornerstone of my life, and I strive to approach everything I do with love.

6. How has working as a caregiver influenced your life?
Working as a caregiver has given me a deeper appreciation for what the aging community experiences and the challenges that can come with losing independence. It has taught me not to take the simple things in life for granted and to value the dignity, comfort, and quality of life that good care can provide. Most importantly, it has reminded me of the importance of treating every person with patience, compassion, and respect.
7. What is a future goal you hope to accomplish, career or personal related?
A future goal of mine is to continue growing professionally within the caregiving and healthcare field. I hope to build on my experience, continue developing my skills, and explore opportunities that allow me to expand the ways I serve others while remaining grounded in the compassionate, hands-on care that brought me to this work.
